Hi, i’m Derek Van Hook. Before starting Van Hook Media, I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Digital Media. While I love engineering, my true creativity flows through photography and videography. I began my photography career began back in 2012 when I took my first photography class. From there on I ventured into videography, aerial photography, and underwater photography. This love of digital media has allowed me to document adventures and capture memories, as well as highlight the beauty of our landscape here in the Florida Keys.
Since starting Van Hook Media, I’ve worked with many different types of clients. I have done some really spectacular engagement shoots, portraits, real estate listings, as well as branding photography for companies like Eric’s Contender and Dolphin Boatworks. When working with these clients I learned a lot about marketing and how important digital media can be for good market presence. Many companies in south Florida struggled to find companies that provide stock images that appealed to their target clients. For example, in winter months most nationwide marketing companies use images with snow for their clients social media marketing! Clearly, these larger companies do not know much about south Florida and our unique lifestyle.
The ocean is what makes south Florida special. We are surrounded by tropical paradises and nature preserves unlike anywhere else in the country. Traditional marketing techniques simply do not work well with the locals here. Instead of choosing a larger marketing company, go with a local.
